So, I met with most teachers at NES. We have decided to form a PLC to work in collaborative teams to analyze and improve classroom practice to
ultimately impact student learning. We will meet monthly to dialogue about "best practices" and their implications for student learning. We can discuss curricular outcomes , assess student achievement, select instructional materials, plan special projects (Family Math Night?), and pursue professional growth opportunities. I will meet with staff from all schools shortly to welcome them in this PLC. It is important to have all schools participate to ensure a smooth transition between schools. Our first meeting is currently scheduled for the first Weds, March 5th . 3:30 pm at NES. The topic is "Power of Ten" manipulatives. Thank you to all the staff who signed up. Lenore Happy Valentine's Day to all. I have been around and visited with teachers from the Primary, Elementary and Mameo. Next week, I will go over and visit teachers at the Secondary School.
For those of you who wonder what I do: - For the remainder of the year, I will be working 3 days a week with students in grade 3 and 4 at the Elementary school. I am interested in knowing if providing pullout support to our students will make significant benefit on Provincial Achievement Testing in June. Obviously, I cannot get around to helping all grades (3,6,9) but it will be interesting to see if there is any marked improvement. I will focus my work on basic operations and skills. The other two days, I am available to meet with teachers and support them with the goal of improving how well students perform on standardized and achievement tests and overall math skills. Please know, I am only an email away. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are excited about a math activity or need assistance in any way. Enjoy your family Day Lenore |
