I have visited a few classes at the Elementary School and of course continue to take grade three students to work on basic math skills. I am very pleased to see the excitement about math in general. For some students, this is a complete 180 turn-around. We have given the students plenty of practice to reinforce strategies taught in the classroom and added a few math games to excite students about math. (and perhaps remove some on the anxiety about math for students and staff )
Today our "math PLC" will meet at the elementary school, after the buses. (postponed) Of course all are welcome. On today's agenda, we will look at the Jump Math After School Program and how we can use it as a tool to help our students.
I found a great website to "enhance teacher capacity in mathematics instruction and numeracy development for Grade 1 to 6 students with disabilities." However, I think there are many ideas that we can incorporate into our classrooms to enhance math instruction for all our students. Please when you get a few minutes in your busy day, have a peek.

I have spent a few blocks in the Elementary School computer lab assisting students when they are working on Mathletics. I am so pleased to see students using so many diverse and efficient strategies to solve problems.
I look forward to coming into more classrooms and seeing all the great things happening in math.
Remember to praise the students effort not the end result (correct answer).
Recent research shows that if you want to help students become better at math, effort is more important to acknowledge than intelligence."
